More about R&S Series plates

What are R&S Series plates?

R&S Series plates are a type of vehicle registration plate specific to South Australia (SA). They hold unique historic significance as the general issue plates used in SA from 1967 to 1981.

What size is a R&S Series number plate?

The R&S Series number plate size is the same as the standard number plate size, measuring 371mm x 133mm. These dimensions are suitable for both the front and rear of your vehicle.

What is the difference between R&S Series plates and standard plates?

R&S Series plates follow the format of three letters starting with either an ‘R’ or an ‘S’ followed by 3 numbers. Current standard number plates begin with an ‘S’, followed by 3 numbers and 3 letters (S000 XXX).

How long will my R&S Series plates take to arrive?

Your R&S Series plates will be ready in about 10 working days.

You can collect them from your nominated Service SA Customer Service Centre or have them mailed to you for a $20 postage fee.

Can I transfer my old R&S Series plates to another vehicle?

Yes. If you have a car with the original R or S Series number plates, you can keep the number plate and display it on another vehicle registered in your name.

Visit the SA GOV website for the required application forms and fees to change a vehicles plate number. Submit the form in person to a Service SA customer service centre and pay the fees.
